Q ENERGY and Lunaco to co-develop two solar projects totaling 84 MW in north-eastern Germany
Berlin, 6 December 2022. Q ENERGY today announced that it will cooperate with Lunaco GmbH in Germany to co-develop two solar power projects in southern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The photovoltaic plants will comprise 52 MW and 32 MW respectively and will be located close by the community of Lewitzrand. Both projects already have the so-called “Aufstellungsbeschluss”, the permission which will allow for their further development until full construction readiness. Totaling a clean energy production capacity of 84 MW, the plants will cover the electricity demand of more than 20.000 households and save around 35 tons of carbon emissions per year.
The two projects in the north-east of Germany mark the starting point of Q ENERGY’s partnership with the German solar developer Lunaco. Q ENERGY is active along the entire value chain of green energy projects and manages an active development pipeline of more than 12 GW of solar, wind and storage projects in Europe. It comprises a holding and two subsidiaries which root from the former downstream unit of solar pioneer Qcells and the former French business of RES-Group respectively. Lunaco GmbH is a German project developer with over 15 years of experience in large-scale rooftop and ground-mounted photovoltaic solutions and is particularly known for solar projects with agricultural partners. In developing their solar power projects in Germany, Q ENERGY and Lunaco place great emphasis on sustainable relationships with the communities and residents involved in order to create long-term value for all parties.
Mr. Sang Chull Chung, CEO of Q ENERGY said: “The two projects in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are the next milestones on our path to further grow our 1 GW pipeline in Germany. Rapidly expanding green energy production in Germany and Europe is the only way forward to sustainably increase electricity supply and to lower carbon emissions. That’s why Q ENERGY is proud to enter into sustainable partnerships, both with Lunaco as well as with the local communities, to create mutual and long-term benefit.”
Benjamin Hofbauer, Managing Director of Lunaco GmbH added: "Solar power plants are an essential pillar in the efforts to accomplish the energy transition in Germany. At the same time, they touch the interests of various parties: communities, population, farmers and of course the nature. Hence, an active and close dialogue with all relevant stakeholders is essential for a smooth realization. We are therefore delighted to partner with Q ENERGY, a company which roots from the solar pioneer Qcells and has both a rich history as well as a bright future in Germany.”
