Q ENERGY France announces the commissioning of Berceronne, its first wind farm developed and built in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region in the west of France

Q ENERGY France inaugurated the Berceronne wind farm, in Jazeneuil in the Vienne county (86), in the presence of elected officials, partners and Octopus Renewables, the manager of the wind farm.

A project widely supported by the local elected officials

The project was initiated in 2013 thanks to the enthusiasm of local authorities to develop a wind energy project and has benefited over time from strong support from elected officials. The technical and environmental studies carried out by Q ENERGY revealed a particularly favourable context for the establishment of a wind farm.

At the same time, several consultation and communication measures animated the development of the project: a series of 4 information days, exhibitions and meetings in town halls, distribution of information booklets to residents and several site visits with local residents and schools.

Octopus Energy Generation, one of Europe’s largest investors in renewable energy, manages the wind farm. The construction of the wind farm began in September 2021 and the turbines were erected between February and March 2022. Three wind turbines with a unit capacity of 3 MW will produce clean energy to cover the needs of 12,300 inhabitants.

In addition to the production of renewable energy, the Berceronne wind farm will also contribute to boosting the local economy while preserving biodiversity through the implementation of numerous environmental measures. For example, we can mention the management of more than 12 hectares of crops favourable to lowland birds, the planting of 685 linear metres of hedge or the protection of nests which have notably allowed the fledging of 13 small Montagu's Harriers in 2021, and 17 this year already.

Francisco Varela, Development Director at Q ENERGY France, said:“I am delighted to join the team today to inaugurate the Berceronne wind farm, with our local partners and wind farm manager, Octopus Renewables. Our projects built or currently under construction in this region will eventually supply clean electricity to over 75,400 people, almost 85% of the population of Poitiers, and come at a time when the electricity network needs cheaper green energy most”.

A significant project portfolio in the region

The commissioning of this wind farm reflects the long-term work of our teams and symbolically marks the continuing presence of Q ENERGY France in Nouvelle Aquitaine. Indeed, with a second commissioning imminent for the Cerisou wind farm located only 40 km from Berceronne and the construction of two new wind farms that have just started in the same county, the portfolio of Q ENERGY France projects built and under construction in the region amounts to 57 MW.
