Corporate Social Responsibility

Sustainability as a basic attitude

At Q ENERGY, we believe in holistic quality and sustainability. For us, sustainability is not a passing trend, but the supporting foundation on which humanity must build its economy, its society and ultimately the life of tomorrow today.

That is why we are focusing our commitment on supplying this new world holistically with clean and sustainable energy from renewable sources. But it doesn´t stop there. We also believe in quality and sustainability in our relationships - with our customers, partners and employees, with society as a whole and especially with nature and the environment. Mutual respect, trust and a strong sense of responsibility for each other and for the world we live in are particularly important to us.

Against this background, our sustainability managers work tirelessly and continuously to better fulfil our responsibility as a company in the economic, environmental and social fields.

Working together

Our parent company Hanwha Solutions and the Hanwha Group as a whole are committed to the principles of sustainability and are staunch supporters of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Hanwha Group's focus is on those goals that we can directly influence through our business and social activities: SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land) and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).

As a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), Hanwha Solutions subscribes to its 10 principles including human rights, labor standards, the environment and anti-corruption. We are integrating these principals into our business practices and uphold them as fundamental values for our sustainable growth.

Q ENERGY is committed to providing clean energy to humanity, as well as to a livable future on many other levels. For example, we work closely with the Hanwha Social Responsibility Centre on various projects and also engage in our own initiatives. In the future, we will institutionalise our activities in the areas of sustainability and ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) via a separate organisational unit within Q ENERGY Solutions SE and thus further strengthen them.

Nuncats - Supporting the UK's first light electric aircraft charging station

Storage

Nuncats is a Community Interest Company (CIC) that aims to provide a reliable supply of light electric aircraft to some of the world's most remote communities. With this in mind, with the support of NUNCATS, the UK's first electric aircraft charging station has been installed at the small village's airfield in East Anglia by Renenergy, a renewable energy developer. With 33 Q.PEAK DUO L-G8 solar panels from our sister company Q CELLS installed on the hangar, it is also the first solar-powered charging station for electric aircraft in Europe.

Clean Up Mekong

In Vietnam, together with the Hanwha Group, we are making targeted efforts to solve the country's serious environmental problems. For the Clean Up Mekong campaign, we donated two solar-powered boats that use electric conveyor systems to collect floating waste that clogs the surface of the Mekong River. We also ran a social media campaign to raise public awareness of the dangers posed by this floating waste.

The solar-powered boats work six- to seven-hour shifts, seven days a week, without emitting carbon emissions. Together, they can collect 400 to 500 kg of waste daily. This is a significant improvement over the previous way of collecting waste. Previously, volunteers manually scooped the waste in nets while riding in diesel-powered boats that emitted exhaust fumes and discharged liquids into the river.

Meanwhile, the social media campaign attracted a lot of public attention. Content posted on Facebook has been viewed more than 4.34 million times. On YouTube, a video explaining the global impact of the Mekong's pollution went viral and was viewed over 13.5 million times.

Hanwha Solar Forest

Solar

The "Hanwha Solar Forest" initiative of our parent company, the Hanwha Group, is a global campaign to combat climate change, air pollution and desertification by reforesting forests lost to deforestation and forest clearance. To date, more than half a million trees have been planted in Mongolia, China and South Korea.

We have also used our experience in the solar energy industry to establish the world's first seedling nursery powered solely by solar energy. Previously, reforestation campaigns paradoxically relied on fossil fuels to power seedling nurseries. Our environmentally friendly solution has been cited as a best practice by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

The campaign not only serves to rejuvenate the environment, but also enables displaced people to return to their original homes and build new lives.
